Accepted Answer

The first edition covers Wrangler TJ and LJ 4.0L models from 1997–2006, JK and JKU models from 2007–2011 (3.8L engine), and JK and JKU models from 2012–2018 (3.6L engine). It does not cover TJ models with the 2.4L or 2.5L engine, or YJ, JL, or Gladiator models.

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Companion includes applicable information for both manual- and automatic-transmission Jeeps within the supported generations. Always verify specifications and procedures for your exact year, engine, transmission, trim, and options.

Question 3

Is the Companion suitable for a beginner?

Accepted Answer

It is written for owners building confidence as well as experienced DIYers who want faster reference information. Procedures emphasize safe preparation, the correct tool or meter setting, simple checks first, and testing before replacing parts.

Question 4

Does it replace the factory service manual?

Accepted Answer

No. The Companion is a practical garage-side guide designed to be used beside factory service information, not instead of it. Factory procedures for your exact Jeep remain the final reference.

It includes ownership guidance, quick-reference specifications, basic maintenance and diagnostics, recommended tools, vehicle systems, dashboard and electrical information, OBD diagnostics, common problems, practical solutions and modifications, Jeep culture, and additional resources.

Question 6

When can I buy it, and what will it cost?

Accepted Answer

The first edition is planned for 2026. Final format, price, release date, shipping regions, and ordering details are coming soon and will be announced on the Shop page and through the newsletter.

Question 7

What is Garage Help?

Accepted Answer

Garage Help lets newsletter subscribers describe a Jeep problem, codes, symptoms, and tests already completed. We help organize sensible next diagnostic steps. It is educational guidance from fellow Jeep owners, not a repair shop or emergency service.

Question 8

How will updates and corrections be handled?

Accepted Answer

Confirmed corrections will be posted on the Updates & Corrections page with the section, printed page, original wording, corrected information, and publication date. Readers can submit possible errors from that same page.

Question 9

Is Old Men’s Garage affiliated with Jeep?

Accepted Answer

No. The Jeep Wrangler DIY Companion is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Jeep, FCA US LLC, or Stellantis.
